Paul's Heart For the Ephesian Christians (Eph. 1:15-23)

Textual Observations:

  1. “For this reason” is a continuation of Paul’s thoughts, that he wants to bless them and pray for them. He recognizes that they were also chosen and he therefore wants to lift them up in prayer that they might see the great power of God in their lives.

  2. “heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people” — their lives have been a testimony to the gospel. They trust Jesus. They love others.

  3. “I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers” — they are constantly on Paul’s heart. He lifts them up in prayer regularly.

  4. This is Paul’s prayer

    1. That the eyes of their hearts would be enlightened to know…

      1. (tis) The hope to which he called you

      2. (tis) The riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people

      3. (ti) The exceeding greatness of his power for us who believe

  5. That same power accomplished:

    1. Raising Christ from the dead

    2. Seating him at the right hand of God the Father in heaven

      1. Far above all rule, authority, power, dominion, and every name.

      2. Not only in this age, but in the one to come

      3. God placed all things under His feet

      4. God appointed him as Head over all things for the church

        1. Which is his Body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
