Read 1 Samuel 16:1-13
Contemplate: Now that the Israelites are in the Promised Land, they want a king. King Saul’s reign ends in disaster. But God chooses David, the youngest and smallest of his family, to be the next king around 1000 BC. He is a shepherd, a vocation that requires selfless sacrifice for the well-being of the sheep. This is the type of king that God wants. And it is the pattern for the coming of King Jesus, the Good Shepherd (John 10).
Pray: Praise Jesus as the Good Shepherd.
