Advent Devotional - Dec 8 - Deuteronomy 6

Read Deuteronomy 6

Contemplate: After the Israelites are redeemed from Egypt, God gives them commands and regulations so that they may “do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors” (Deut. 6:18). Remember God’s promise to Abraham in Genesis 15? He wants them to obey his commands because he knows what is best for his children. He wants them to do what is right so that it will go well in the Promised Land. His people are commanded to “love the Lord your God will all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength” (Deut. 6:5). The center of God’s commands for his children is that they would love him. He redeemed us so that we would love him.

Pray: Thank God for his love and his grace to redeem you. Pray that God will give you opportunities to love him more today.
